Ben Towne
Principal
I am committed to helping small business owners increase the value of their business, so they can achieve successful exits and leave meaningful legacies.
I care about business owners that are invested in their teams, their families, their customers, and their communities and think about their businesses as a way to make a contribution – not just a way to make a buck. I owe a lot to my dad, who was a business owner, and instilled these values in me.
I started my career as a CPA in Silicon Valley accounting firms, where I learned the importance of rigorous analysis, objectivity and telling the straight truth. I started Towne Advisory in 2013 because I wanted to bring this rigor to the small business owners I care deeply about. After starting Towne Advisory, I partnered with my longtime friend and colleague Alan Yang who runs the outsource accounting division of our firm.
I’m a San Jose native and a proud San Jose State University Spartan. At SJSU, I received the College of Business’s top award: Alpha al Sirat.
I’m active in the California Society of CPAs. I was the President of the Silicon Valley chapter, and currently, I serve in leadership positions for the Business Valuation Section and the Forensic Services Section.
Some of my passions include backpacking in the wild and going to San Jose Sharks hockey games with my kids and my wife Erika.
Alan Yang
Principal
I bring over 15 years of expertise in steering outsourced accounting teams dedicated to supporting startups and venture capital funds. My professional journey began in the esteemed environments of Deloitte Audit and PricewaterhouseCoopers Tax, where I honed my skills and laid the foundation for my subsequent career.
What sets me apart is my holistic approach to leading finance teams for early-stage companies. I take pride in meticulously planning every phase of growth and exit events, ensuring a robust financial framework that withstands the test of time. It’s gratifying to witness the enduring impact of the controls and structures I’ve implemented, contributing to sustained business growth.
My diverse experience spans across a range of sectors, including SaaS, FinTech, Biotech, Hardware, and CPG. I hold a B.A. in Business Management Economics from UC Santa Cruz, providing me with a solid academic foundation to complement my practical insights.
Beyond the professional realm, I find joy in exploring the world through travel and the depths of the ocean through scuba diving. On a more personal note, I appreciate the importance of great teeth, a sentiment shared with my wife Janice, who happens to be a dentist. Together, we navigate the balance of professional excellence and a fulfilling personal life.
