Meet The Team

Ben Towne – Principal

Ben TowneAfter a career as a CPA in Silicon Valley accounting firms, Ben founded Towne Advisory in 2013 dedicated to providing high-quality valuation work to a variety of businesses. He is a San Jose native and a proud SJSU Spartan, receiving the College of Business’s top award (Alpha al Sirat). He has taken leadership roles in the California Society of CPAs including serving as the President of the Silicon Valley chapter in 2010 and present service on the Forensic Services Section Steering Committee and Business Valuations Section leadership.

When he’s not helping business owners reach their goals, he’s shuttling the kids around town or going to San Jose Sharks hockey games with his wife, Erika.

Elena Mavliev – Director


Elena has 15 years of experience in Business Valuation and Financial Modeling. Elena has performed valuations and developed financial models for a wide variety of industries and company sizes, including venture-backed life science and technology companies (both early stage and mature) among others for diverse purposes, including fundraising, strategic planning, corporate restructuring, M&A support, financial reporting, tax planning, and compliance.

Elena got her Ph.D. in Economics in 2008. She also has an MS in Economics (with a minor in Business Valuation). In 2017, Elena passed the third (final) exam for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Her previous roles include executive positions at a Big Four firm, where she received a strong background in the valuation of multinational businesses and cross-border transactions.

Outside of work, Elena enjoys spending time with her three kids and traveling.

Shannon Schmidt – Valuation Manager

Shannon SchmidtShannon joined the team in 2016, starting the East Coast presence. Upon earning her Bachelors Degree in Finance and Economics from Marist College in 2010, Shannon was recognized as the top student in the business school. She then started her career in Transfer Pricing, later joining an Investment Banking Operations Rotational Program. In 2013, Shannon was recognized as a Fellow for the Consortium for Graduate Management Studies and, in 2015, earned her MBA from New York University Stern School of Business.

Outside of work, Shannon enjoys chasing her three kids and exploring the outdoors with her husband and family.

Kelly Yang – Business Administrator

Kelly joined the TASC team August 2019 as a Business Administrator.

Kelly graduated from UC Berkeley with an Economics degree. She stems from a retail buying background from major domestic and international retailers.

In her spare time, she is an avid fitness enthusiast, teaches Pilates, and loves to travel.
